Grant Thullen -- Thullen is 6-1 right handed pitcher from Indiana with a well proportioned athletic frame. He throws from a standard ¾’s release point with a short, compact arm stroke in back and good extension out front. Thullen threw 80-81 mph with good running life on his fastball and it’s easy to see him throwing much harder in mid-season shape. His curveball was 66-69 mph and had a short, late slider-like break to it. Thullen took advantage of his strength with a bat in his hand too. He showed some very good bat speed and centers on the ball very well. He has big power potential at the plate. .

Grant is an "05" RHP/IF who has good mechanics on the mound. Uses his legs well and good follow through. Starts and finishes in a nice balanced position. He has an overhand delivery and still gets late movement on his fastball. Good strong body, he throws fastball, cutter, curveball, changeup. He also shows some athletic ability. He can pitch.

Thullen is only a sophomore and already has a 6 foot 1 frame with a solid build. He is a pitcher and a third baseman. We saw him do well at both, but think he has the most potential on the mound. During infield he looked the part of a veteran in several aspects. He showed good hands and a good arm action registering at 77 mph on his throw to 1B. He projects as a third baseman best and by the end of the fielding sessions he showed the ability to keep his feet moving, and utilize a shorter and quicker release on his throw. Hitting, he showed an open stance that closed up to the pitch and it worked for him in batting practice. He hit solid line drives and showed good hitting actions and a nice swing, with aluminum power. He creates some good bat speed. On the mound, Thullen used a three quarter arm slot, and a solid base that he threw from. He showed a high and hard knee lift with a little bit of counter-rotation and then uncoiled nicely as he drove towards the plate. It was a basic style that looked comfortable to him and he was able to shift his weight back over the rubber when he was at his highest point in his knee lift. This allowed him to stay in balance as he drove and rotated. He has strong musculature in his legs. His arm finished good and he landed in good fielding position too. He showed a 77-82 mph fastball using his body well and getting good life on his heater. His curve was another good pitch, 65-68 mph and his arm action was again very smooth with the exception of a slight let-up in arm speed. The curve got a nice bite and has the potential to be a very good pitch. Thullen has a couple more years of growing and adding strength to an already solid and strong body. We liked what we saw and think he has the potential to play at the Division 1 level. He is a very good follow prospect right now, as a sophomore, watch him closely.
