Evan Patterson is a 2006 LHP/OF/1B with a 6'4'', 180 lb. frame from Knoxville, TN, who attends Karns High School. He is a tall and strong pitcher who should be durable. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm. He has smooth mechanics with good balance and an online delivery. There is tailing life on his fastball that topped out at 81 mph. Patterson mixes in a big sweeping curveball at 66-68 mph, and a 72 mph changeup that he maintains arm speed on and shows arm side fade. He has good control of all three pitches. Patterson has projectable velocity, and has good tempo on the mound. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with a short and quick bat path. He turns on the ball well staying inside the ball with good hands. Patterson is a pull hitter with some strength and power in his swing. He has two-way potential, and is a very good student as well.

Patterson is a very lean and projectable junior 6-4 left handed pitcher from Tennessee. This kid is a very good athlete, too, and we’re not so sure that he doesn’t have just as much potential as an outfield prospect, if not more. Patterson’s whole package is going to depend on how and when he adds significant amounts of strength to his 175 lb frame. On the mound, Patterson threw 75-78 mph on his fastball with very nice late life. He consistently buried this pitch under left handed hitters hands. His curveball had good velocity and action up to 69 mph. Patterson’s arm works very well after he works through a wrist hook in back but he has very little balance point in his delivery and is frequently rushing to catch up. Offensively, Patterson is a rare left handed thrower, right handed hitter. He generates good bat speed and has very good leverage in his swing. He got a little long in games and had busy feet and hands but really hit the ball nicely. Patterson is worth following has a hitter if he fills out his frame and gets strong. He's a 6.84 runner in the 60. Patterson is a good student, too.
