Phil is the son of former big league catcher David Valle, a man known as much, if not more in the baseball industry, for his character and ethics off the field and in the clubhouse as his skills on the field. Watching Phil play, it’s obvious that the fruit hasn’t fallen far from the tree. Phil is the kind of hard nosed over achiever that any dad can be proud of. He doesn’t have any tool that grades out above average on the Major League scale but has smooth, easy actions and does whatever needs to be done on the field to be successful. His best position is at second base, where his first step quickness and instincts play big. At the plate, Phil’s swing was a little long with wood, but he showed the ability to fight off tough pitches and work the count until he got something he could handle. When he adds some strength, he should be able to drive the ball well with wood. Any college that doesn’t want Valle on their team, playing second base and batting second in the order is sitting pretty good already. He’s definitely a big winner. Philip is an excellent student.
