2006 California Underclass
Brent Bray is a 2007 RHP/IF from Beaumont HS, residing in Yucaipa, CA, with a 6'3" 170 lb. frame. Bray has a long and lanky build. He is built like a pitcher should be, with long arms and looseness in his movements. Bray comes at hitters from a traditional 3/4 slot and his overall mechanics and delivery show some promise. Watching him on the mound you get the feeling that his stuff will come with more mound time. There is good coordination and his arm works. His body is very interesting but so is his approach to pitching. Bray showed a decent variance of velocity between his pitches and also showed decent command of all of them. His fastball topped out at 81 with a 67-68 mph curveball and a 70-71 mph change-up. As a right-handed hitter during the showcase, Bray, a pitching prospect only, showed a quiet swing with minimal wasted motion. He showed some balance with a minimal pre-pitch load to the hitting position. In the infield Bray displayed a long arm action and as you can expect from a pitcher with some promise, the ball exited his hand decently. His arm action suggests a promising future on the mound, especially if his arm gains strength, as it naturally should in the coming years. Bray should be considered a follow prospect because of the body and long arm on the hill.
