Instructor Bios:

Kevin Schuver:  Hitting and catching instructor- Kevin was a two time first team all-state catcher at Marion High School as well as a 3 time all-conference and all-district performer. Kevin posted a .527 batting average that is tied for the highest in school history for a single season. Kevin went on to play college baseball at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College. While at Coe, Kevin was a two time all-conference player as well as an all-region player his senior year. Kevin coached 8 season as an assistant baseball coach at Marion High School as well as 2 seasons as an assistant at Coe College. Kevin is the Director of Facility Operations, and also serves as a PG scout for showcase and tournament events. Kevin resides with his wife Katelynn and daughter Paisley in Cedar Rapids.

Jason Piddington:  Jason has 12 years experience working with pitchers: first as an Assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville followed by a Head Coaching Stint at Dubuque Wahlert High School. After two years at Wahlert, Piddington returned to the college ranks with a year at Lincoln Trail Community college and two years at Western Texas Junior College. At Lincoln Trail, Jason oversaw a pitching staff that led the conference in ERA and won the regular season championship. After joining Perfect Game full time in 2009, he began giving private lessons. Jason had 2 former players (Nick Kirk-Wahlert & David Arnold-LTC) go on to play professional baseball.

Chris Brown:  Chris attended high school and Junior College in Texas before being drafted by the Houston Astros in 2001. Chris enjoyed 2 seasons with the Astros organization before being injured during the 2003 season. Over the next nine years Chris then performed several MLB team camps and clinics. Chris brings a plethora of arm strength and agility drills to Perfect Game along with his extensive experience working with all levels of players.

Steve James:   Steve is a graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High school and was a starting pitcher for the Warriors on their 1999 and 2000 teams that finished 3rd in class 4A. He was named Honorable Mention All-State, All-Conference, All-District, and All-Metro teams his senior year. Steve pitched collegiately at Kirkwood Community College and Coe College. Steve has 10 years of experience at Perfect Game as a pitching instructor, scout, and coaches PG Iowa Select Teams. Since 2005, Steve has coached over 80 Division 1 players and more than 25 draft picks including 2nd rounders’ Mitch Keller, Alec Rash, and Kellen Sweeney.

Brett Rettenmeier: Brett has been a hitting instructor at Perfect Game for 3 years. Brett started his career in Cedar Rapids, attending Thomas Jefferson High School where he received All-State recognition. He went on to attended Kirkwood Community College becoming an All-Region shortstop as a sophomore. His junior year he attend Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin playing shortstop and third for the V-Hawks. Brett went on to play in the Northwoods League for the La Crosse Loggers, then in the Coastal Plains League for the Martinsville Mustangs in Martinsville, Virginia. Brett now plays competitive softball, traveling all over the US and even played in an international tournament in Bangkok, Thailand. 

Harold Brumbaugh: Harold began playing men’s fast pitch softball 40 years ago and became a player/coach while in the Military, retiring as a player in 2005. Harold was Head Coach at the collegiate level while in the MIAA Conference, providing all conference players, all region players, and an All American. Has extensive experience in coaching youth level programs, participating in Midwest, Regional and ASA National tournaments.  Coached All-American teams and players in Australia, New Zealand, and Europe, and also as the Head Coach in The Netherland’s Women’s Major League in 2007: 8 players from this team participated in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.  The most recent International experience was Head Coach of the Austrian National Team.  Recently, duties have been primarily as a pitching coach to youth players in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor.  Current endeavors include Softball fundamental and skills training clinics to help develop youth talent for local club and High School programs.  While Harold shares his passion of softball with his players and family, he equally stresses that players strive to be good students and citizens first. 

Neal Currell: Neal has 10 years of experience at Perfect Game instructing hitting, scouting and officiating.  A native Cedar Rapidian, Neal was a 1st team All-State outfielder for the Washington Warriors. He played collegiately a Southeastern Community College and completed his collegiate experience at the University of Northern Iowa. Specializing in human physiology, Neal has coached several Division 1 and professional athletes as a Performance Coach and personal trainer.


Michael Goerdt: Hitting and Outfield instructor –Michael graduated from Columbus Catholic High School in 2011 and was a starter on the varsity baseball team for 4 years. Michael helped lead the team to 3 state tournaments in his 4 years of work. During his senior season, Michael was a 1st team all state selection and owned the state RBI category with 68 during the 2011 season. Michael then went on to become a 3 year starter at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA. Michael started in left field for the Kohawks and had a .305 career batting average. During his senior season in 2015, Michael set a school record 3 home runs in a single game. Michael finished his career being selected to the All-Region team and helped lead the Kohawks to the Regional Championship. Michael currently works at Cedar Rapids Bank and Trust and is an assistant baseball coach for Coe College.
