FL Hardballers 17U and the Schaumburg Seminoles have battled their way to a 3-3 tie after 7 innings of play. Leading the way for the Hardballers was C/MIF Alex Merritt (2013, Trinity Catholic HS, Ocala, FL) who finished 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs. He showed a sound hitting approach with some gap to gap pop. C/3B/1B Alffredi Ramos (2013, Mater Lakes Academy, Hialeah, FL) added an RBI single while displaying good plate coverage and a sound hitting approach with some gap to gap power.
OF/RHP/MIF Dalton Duty (2013, Palatka HS, Palatka, FL) rounded out the attack going 1 for 1 with 2 walks, a stolen base, and a run scored. He displayed a short, compact, balance swing with a good line drive contact approach.
On the mound, starter RHP Zack Money (2014, Madison County HS, Lee, FL) threw 5 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts. He did a nice job of changing speeds and working quickly with a fastball/curveball/changeup combination that topped out at 85 MPH. RHP Hunter Williams (2013, Trenton HS, Trenton, FL) then came on for the final 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs or hits with a walk and 2 strikeouts while hitting 82 MPH on the radar gun.
For Schaumburg, RHP River Pitlock (2013, York HS, Elmhurst, IL) led the way going 1 for 3 with an RBI Double. He displayed a fluid stroke with a live bat and a sound hitting approach with some pop to the gaps. Lead off man OF Marques Winick (2012, Naperville North HS, Naperville, IL) finished 1 for 3 with a triple and a run scored. MIF Craig Dedelow (2013, Munster HS, Munster, IN) rounded out the attack going 1 for 3 with an RBI.
On the mound, starter RHP Chris Bartosz (2013, Montini HS, Woodridge, IL) threw 5 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on just 2 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts while reaching 81 MPH on his heater. RHP John Escobar (2013, William Fremd HS, Inverness, IL) then came on and threw a scoreless 7th allowing 1 hit with no walks and 2 strikeouts. He did a nice job competing on the mound and hit 84 MPH on his fastball.
