2017 Sunshine West Showcase

Sunshine West Day 1 BP Highlights
6/10/2017 7:26:19 PM
Cole Dale (2019 RHP, Los Angeles, CA): The UCLA commit is listed as a primary righthanded pitcher; but still showed legitimate hitting tools. He consistently drove the ball into the air on a rising line with legitimate bat speed and strength; and could hit for significant power with continued strength gains.

Joe Guzman III (2020 OF, Arleta, CA): Guzman may have just finished his freshman year of high school; but showed advanced hitting tools and feel for the barrel, consistently matching the barrel plane to the pitch plane and consistently hitting line drives to all fields.

Isaac Luevano (2018 SS, South Pasadena, CA): Did a good job circling his hands through his load and getting on plane; consistently squared the ball into the air with linear jump--projects for some power as well.

Alonzo Richardson (2020 SS, Spring Valley, CA): Richardson showed some serious intent, swinging the bat hard consistently and looking to do damage. Showed good bat speed and hand quickness; will hit for power with additional strength as he matures.

Mikie Welch (2019 C, San Diego, CA): Welch took one of the louder rounds of the day in terms of power, did a good job squaring up quite a few pitches with legitimate bat speed and strength--drove them deep into the air with projectable HR power.

Dylan Tanner (2019 C, Foothill Ranch, CA): Tanner is a physical righthanded hitter with good pop, sinking his hips into contact with good bat speed and strength off the barrel, driving a few deep to the pull field.

Jonathan Clark (2018 3B, San Marcos, CA): Clark did a good job finding a consistently positive launch angle, showing good bat speed and combining those two to produce rising line drives with good jump off the barrel.

Griffin Zamora (2019 SS, La Mesa, CA): Zamora has all the components to hit for serious power when he gets stronger; as he shows legitimate bat speed with a smooth barrel path in addition to loose hands and a consistently positive launch.

Noel Perez (2019 2B, Chula Vista, CA): Perez showed a compact, quick lefthanded stroke that consistently got the barrel out on time and resulted in hard, line drive contact all over the field.

Riley Carter (2019 1B, Carlsbad, CA): Carter has a lot of power-hitting components to his swing, including big time bat speed and strength, which resulted in consistently stung line drives.

Isaac Ramirez (2019 C, Fullerton, CA): Ramirez stays compact with his hands through the zone and extends well through contact, generating quality bat speed and the ability to drive the ball well on a line.

Ryan Agosto (2019 LHP, San Diego, CA): Agosto is listed as a pitcher-only, but his swing was anything but that, showing extremely fast hands that work well into a swing that generated consistently smoked line drives to all fields.

Thomas Temple (2018 1B, Oceanside, CA): Temple has big time strength throughout his body and into his swing, and he showed the ability to elevate and drive the ball deep into the air to the pull field.

Conner Banta (2018 OF, Kennewick, WA): Banta had one of the more simple, repeatable swings of the day; showing legitimate bat speed with clean hands and good hip sink into contact, driving the ball to the pull field consistently.

Noel Bustos (2018 C, Fresno, CA): Found the barrel consistently with excellent strength and bat speed; hit some high-arching shots that went deep to the pull field--will have big HR pop with more consistency.

Nolan Inouye (2020 3B, Clovis, CA): Has excellent hands through his swing, with quickness creating bat speed, consistently getting the barrel out on time and stinging the ball on a line to all fields.

Nick Wilson (2019 SS, Fremont, CA): Wilson has excellent projection remaining on his body; so his present quick, leveraged stroke will likely result in quality power output at maturity. He did a good job working to all fields on a line.

Bryson Hashimoto (2019 SS, San Diego, CA): Hashimoto showed a very quick stroke with bat speed and leverage off of his front side. He worked on a line consistently to all fields as well as driving a few in the air deep to left field.

Ethan Balolong-Reyes (2017 OF, Ventura, CA): An uncommitted '17, Balolong-Reyes drove the ball consistently on a rising line drive to the pull field with good bat speed and quick hands. He has power potential with continued strength gains as well.

Christopher Giovengo (2018 SS, La Mesa, CA): Giovengo showed a pull-heavy approach, but worked to that field with authority, consistently driving the ball on a line with good jump off the barrel.

Seth Spencer (2019 LHP, Moreno Valley, CA): Spencer did a good job staying through the ball with a high-energy swing, generating good bat speed and consistently driving the ball on a line, working to all fields as well.

Jesse Pierce (2019 3B, Las Vegas, NV): Pierce has a highly projectable, athletic build to go along with good hitting tools; as he generates quality bat speed on a line drive plane with good strength off the barrel, hitting rising line drives consistently.
