2016 Florida Underclass Showcase

Purple vs. Red Game Highlights
8/14/2016 12:40:47 PM

Tyler Nesbitt (2019, RHP/3B/1B, Labelle, FL) drew attention to himself again today, but this time for his contributions at the plate. His wiry and projectable frame works well with his approach at the plate as he went 2-3 on the day. Nesbitt showed a clean rotational swing with lift that should improve as he fills out his body.

Josh Morales (2018, RHP/OF/UT, Cape Coral, FL) put forth an impressive two-way performance on the mound and at the plate. Offensively, Morales went 1-3 with a triple and displayed an athletic build and swing in addition to his natural speed on the basepaths. He tossed four shutout innings in which he struck out one batter. Morales sat 81-83 MPH, topping out at 85 MPH, on his fastball that had late ASR bite to it. He attacked hitters predominantly on the glove side and was able to create a downhill angle.

Eric Bonkowski (2018, OF/RHP, Plantation, FL) started the game today but also impressed at the plate. He roped a double in the final frame to finish 1-3 on the day and his patient approach combined with his above average bat speed showcased his ability. He showed good pitch recognition and was thus able to adjust to offspeed pitches well.

Ryan Deleon (2018, SS/2B, Cooper City, FL) put his offensive approach on display with a loud double to finish the day 1-3. Deleon has a pull-first approach at the plate and the lift in his swing generated backspin and hard contact.

Cade Koerick (2019, IF, North Port, FL) and his impressive curveball stole the show on the mound. He has a wiry, projectable frame and had a clean delivery on the mound in the high 3/4 slot with tight arm action. He sat 73-75 MPH, but bumped it up to 77 MPH on occasion, but his curveball was his most impressive pitch. Koerick's curve had good depth to it with a 12-6 spin and at times tightened it up to spin it more like a slider that fell off the table.

Roberto Lopez (2020, MIF/OF, Miramar, FL) showed an aggressive approach at the plate and finished 2-4 with two hard hit singles. Lopez has a projectable body type his swing was on a line drive plane with lift to consistently find the barrel of his bat.

Logan O'Neil (2018, OF/RHP, Fort Lauderdale, FL) has a multi-talented skillset and nearly all of them were on display today. In the first inning, O'Neil threw a runner out at third on a strong one-hop throw from right field. He has a compact swing with good plate coverage and was able to drive the ball to the opposite-field gap for a single. On the mound, O'Neil tossed two shutout innings and racked up three strikeouts. He has a balanced, on-line delivery and his mix of fastball and curveball was able to keep hitters off balance.

Nick Tripp (2018 3B/OF, Saint Johns, FL) made a couple of very athletic plays at the hot corner. Ranging to both his left and his right he was able to make plays on ground balls that turned hits into outs. He has an athletic build to his body, in addition to his 6-foot-2 frame, and generated good bat speed at the plate.
