The NCAA postseason picture is always fluid this time of year, and with fans around the country constantly asking questions about which teams helped and hurt their cases, it's important to answer those questions, while also providing in-depth analysis explaining what the previous week might've meant to a team.
It's a new week and plenty of teams are happy after helping their cases last week. USC helped its postseason bubble case by doing a clean sweep of rival UCLA over the weekend, while Texas A&M and West Virginia each won big series over the weekend to keep their postseason hopes alive, the Aggies taking two of three on the road from Mississippi State, along with a midweek win over Rice, while WVU swept Kansas State at home.
There also are those teams who hurt their cases. For instance, Southern Mississippi and Oklahoma had big opportunities to boost their respective resumes over the weekend. However, the Golden Eagles lost a home series to Rice, and the Sooners were unable to win a game at Texas Tech. Meanwhile, Maryland has evolved, in just a week, from a team in the field of 64 to someone with some serious work to do.
The postseason snapshot is a fantastic precursor to our latest field of 64 projections and postseason bubble watch a little later in the week.
HELPED THEIR CASE
What they did: We said a few weeks ago the Beavers' postseason situation would take care of itself with more wins, and it has done exactly that after sweeping rival Oregon at home over the weekend. The Beavers are up to 11 in the RPI with a 31-8 overall record, and suddenly look like an easy pick for a national seed. Going deeper into OSU's resume, the Beavers are 5-0 vs. RPI Top 25, 10-3 vs. RPI Top 50 and 14-5 vs. RPI Top 100. Also, the Beavers have a non-conference RPI of 17, along with a fantastic 15-5 road record. OSU finishes the regular season with California (79), UCLA (104), Washington (25) and USC (47).
