Team Sheet: Vanderbilt

Isaiah Burrows
What Happened: The Commodores dominated the Houston Astros College Classic with a 3-0 sweep over Louisiana, Houston and Texas. Vanderbilt flexed its depth on the rotation and bullpen side of things while finding timely hits, including a massive comeback against the Longhorns. Vanderbilt is young, but has pieces for now and the immediate future.

Strength: High End Pitching

A rotation of Carter Holton, Bryce Cunningham and Devin Futrell has logged immense innings this season. All three starters offer a different look and have performed at a pretty high level to this point. The bullpen has a mix of power arms and pitchability types in any high leverage situation. Vanderbilt has a ton of arms to fill key roles and it really showed.

Weakness: Youth, Power Bats

As mentioned, the Commodores roll out a younger group of underclassmen in sophomores and freshmen, and it’s seen on the position player side of things. There are some growing pains that they’ve endured throughout points in the season, but the biggest weakness that stood out is the lack of game-changing power in the lineup. There are a lot of guys who can put bat to ball, but Vandy lacks some of that heavy type thump to change the game in its favor with one swing of the bat.
