Ben Chan is a 2008 OF/2B with a 5'9'', 165 lb. frame from Mississauga, ON who attends Meadowvale SS. He has a smaller frame, with athletic life and wirey strength. Chan is a 6.89 runner but plays faster in games with a very quick first step and a hustling attitude. Chan played both outfield and infield and while you would normally think second base for a player like Chan, his actions and tools play much better in the outfield. He has excellent fielding fundamentals and a very good throwing arm that topped out at 91 mph in drills with accuracy. He wasn't nearly as comfortable at second base and looked like he hadn't played the position much. Offensively, Chan has a simple and balanced approach at the plate. He's short and quick to the ball with his hands and makes consistent hard contact to the middle of the field. It's a low maintenance, high average type of approach. Chan also showed he had an idea how to bunt and ran 4.10 to first after laying one down. Chan is a good ball player with some tools and the ability to use them. He can definitely play well at the college level. He's also an excellent student.

Ben Chan is a 2008 OF with a 5'9'', 150 lb. frame from Mississauga ON, who attends Meadowvale SS. He has a small framed athletic body with quick, live actions. Chan is a very good runner, showing 6.76 speed in the 60 and a quick first step on the bases and in the outfield. He is a very good defensive outfielder, with centerfield range, good instincts and a powerful throwing arm. Offensively, Chan is a switch hitter with a consistent approach from both sides of the plate. He doesn't have the strength to create real bat speed and drive the ball consistently but knows this and does a nice job of spraying the ball around the field and using his speed. When Chan wasn't on base he was putting pressure on infielders to throw him out. He is a good top of the order hitter who knows his abilities. One thing we wondered about Chan was his potential ability to play second base. Physically he looks like he has all the tools to play that position and that would add more value to his overall package. Chan is a gamer who plays hard and should make a solid performer at the next level.
