Niko Kaufman is a 2008 OF/P with a 5'11'', 155 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Point Loma HS. Kaufman has a lean body with a wirey strong build. Defensively, Kaufman has good arm strength and the ball jumps out of his hand on his throws from the outfield. He makes a good approach to the baseball and makes consistent accurate throws. He has good instincts in the outfield and is a solid defensive player. At the plate, Kaufman starts with an open stance with flexed knees. He has a short path to the baseball and swings on a line drive path. He maintains good balance through his swing and is aggressive in the strike zone. Kaufman competes at the plate and will develop into a solid hitter. On the mound, Kaufman pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm action. His arm works and he stays smooth through his delivery. Kaufman gets closed off at balance point and pitches with some effort. He gets some cut action on his fastball occasionally and has fair spin on his curveball. Kaufman is a solid 2-way follow.

Niko Kaufman is a 2008 OF/P with a 5'11'', 155 lb. frame from San Diego CA, who attends Point Loma HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event (pitcher). Kaufman has a lithe, athletic, rangy body type that has plenty of room for him to add strength in the coming years. He entered the event as a primary position player but showed very nice upside on the mound. Kaufman has an athletic delivery that he repeated well and a pretty quick arm stroke with leverage that suggests a nice spike in velocity as his body develops. He threw is 77-81 mph fastball with good down angle and threw a lot of quality strikes. Kaufman's curveball has a chance to be a difference maker. It has 11/5 shape and at times powered below bats. He has the makings of a legitimate out-pitch with that curveball. Kaufman got better and better as he went along, suggesting a bright future someday on the mound. As a position player he also has ability. His hands fire well at the plate and he has some life in his swing, with a simple approach to hitting. Defensively he moved aggressively to the ball and made accurate, low trajectory throws that likely will allow him to rack up the outfield assists.
