Clay Childress is a 2006 right handed pitcher/ first baseman from Houston, TX, with a strong tall frame and durable pro pitchers build at 6-3 205 lbs. He has broad slightly sloped shoulders and a thick trunk with good core strength. He pitches from a high ¾ to overhand arm slot with a full arm circle. He has a medium effort delivery with a high leg kick and full hip turn. His fastball topped at 80 mph with occasional downward plane. He throws a big-breaking curveball at 67 mph with a sharp 12-6 tilt. Defensively, he showed good actions around the bag with a strong accurate arm. At the plate, his size and athleticism translated into good raw power. He hits from a slightly closed, spread stance with a lofted swing path that produced a few long home runs in batting practice and one long homerun to left during the games. The ball definitely makes a different sound, and jumps off his bat. Clay is solid hitter with a very projectable body and he will be a top level college prospect for 2006.
