Gregg Bennis is a 2009 RHP/OF with a 5'10'', 180 lb. frame from Davie FL, who attends St. Thomas HS. He has a strong, broad shouldered build. Bennis was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team. Bennis throws from an easy, smooth slow paced delivery that he repeats very well. His arm is long and loose with good extension. Bennis' fastball topped out at 85 mph and had very heavy sinking action at times from a 3/4's release point. His best pitch was a big, sharp breaking slider that swept across the plate and was very difficult to hit. Bennis has an advanced ability to pitch and can command both pitches and had no problem slicing up the hitters at this level, it looked like. His arm is loose and easy and you can see him adding velocity as he gets older. Bennis also showed good ability as an outfielder and hitter. His arm strength is obvious from the outfield and he has very nice defensive fundamentals. Offensively, Bennis hits out of a spread stance and has nice bat quickness. He had no problem handling high velocity fastballs and showed solid gap power and the ability to square up on pitches and drive them. Bennis is a very good follow and looks like a high performance type of athlete.
