Ryan Gorton is a 2008 RHP/OF with a 6'2'', 185 lb. frame from Tigard, OR who attends Tigard HS. He has a first rate athletic build with a lean looseness and good strength projection. Gorton has a high leg lift delivery with good rhythm and balance throughout. He has a 2-piece arm action and very good arm speed. Gorton's fastball was solid in the 89-91 mph range and had a bit of sink at the end. He threw a soft slider in the mid 70's that lack power and bite and will need work, either in developing more power or becoming a curveball with tighter spin. His change up is developing. Gorton tended to pitch in the middle of the plate and lacked deception. All the ingredients are there for a top level pitching prospect but we don't think we saw his best stuff. Adding to Gorton's package is that he is a very good athlete. He runs very well and has prospect level outfield tools. He's a contact hitter at the plate who showed the ability to square up to high velocity pitching during games and hit the ball hard to the middle of the field.
