Stuart Smith is a 2008 1B/OF with a 6'2'', 195 lb. frame from Ventura CA, who attends Buena HS. He has a strong, athletic build and is well-proportioned throughout. Smith simply has the look of a young hitter that is going to be an impact hitter in due time. He has an easy swing and stays back on the ball, letting it travel. Smith showed a flat swing plane and hit the ball to all fields. With the way his bat stays in the zone, he has a chance to hit for power and average. His power plays best to the pullside right now but he flashes extension that suggests he will be hitting the ball out to all fields someday. Smith also good timing. Follow his bat. Smith showed nice feet around the bag and soft hands. His actions are solid and he looked to be a very steady defensive player. His arm strength would fit well in the outfield. He is a solid student too.

Stuart Smith is a 2008 left hand hitting corner position player (1B primary, OF) from Buena HS, residing in Ventura, CA. He has a 6'2" 210 lb. frame and a physical, powerfully built and well-proportioned body. There is not much projection to his body type. Offensively Smith is an aggressive player. He showed good present day raw power and the potential for plus future power. His swing is flat and his hands work pretty well. Smith is a masher who works to stay behind the ball and takes a big hack, with the intent to drive the baseball each time he swings. The ball exits his bat well and he showed the ability to make pretty consistent barrel contact. He is a fly ball hitter who should hit his share of home runs and drive in runs, which fits the positions he is suited for on defense. At third base he showed that his hands work well. His range is good for third base and his arm is probably best suited for either 1st base or some would say in left field. In any case, his bat is the type that you look for at each corner position and it will be the tool that gets him attention from college coaches next summer.
