Derek Rich is a 2017 LHP/OF, 1B with a 6-1 170 lb. frame from Kalona, IA who attends Mid-Prairie HS. Tall body, slender build, room to fill out physically as he puts on additional muscle. Ran a 7.25 60-yard dash. Primary left-handed pitcher, throws from a long over the top arm action, generates good downward plane, repeats mechanics well, drives lower half toward plate, has deception in delivery. Fastball has natural cutting action. 12/6 curveball shape, great depth, swing and miss potential. Changeup has fading action, deceptive pitch, similar action as fastball. Body and arm projects. From the outfield, solid footwork, clean exchange, smooth transfer, long over the top throwing action. At the plate, left-handed hitter that starts with a squared stance. Middle of the field approach, small load, short to the ball, extension throughout swing. Currently grades out higher as a pitcher.
