Jered Kennedy is a 2017 LHP/OF with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Arvada, CO who attends Arvada West HS. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Shows room for additional strength and size. Left handed pitcher who pitches exclusively from the stretch. Starts from a narrow set with a simple leg lift delivery. Loads weight well on back side and drives to the plate with high energy, tall and fall mechanics. Creates slight downhill angle with cutting action on a fastball from a high three-quarters arm slot ranging in the mid 70's. Showed good command of the slider that has 2/7 shape with sweeping depth. Creates very good speed differential between slider and fastball creating big timing issues for hitters. Very comfortable throwing the slider in all counts, and went to the pitch often. Flashed a changeup with slight fading actions and deceptive arm speed in the mid 60's. Showed a good knowledge of pitching paired with command, working both edges of the plate and effectively changing speeds. Left handed hitter with a straight stance and compact hand set. Weight stays behind the baseball with rotational lower half actions to contact. Primarily uses the middle of the field with a slightly uphill swing plane and line drive approach. Showed the ability to keep hands back and stay on breaking pitches in games. Also worked out defensively from the outfield showing a compact stride and arm action while throwing, topped at 78 mph. Smooth glove to hand exchanges while working through transition with a deliberate gather before throws. Produces accurate throws to the bag with some on line carry. Graded better as a pitching prospect at this event. Outstanding student.
