2016 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Jack Kiernan is a 2017 1B/OF/RHP with a 6-4 170 lb. frame from Minnetonka, MN who attends Minnetonka HS. Large frame with long limbs and wiry strength throughout. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.67 sixty yard dash. Worked out defensively from the outfield showing with smooth action while closing to the baseball. Clean glove action and exchanges while working through transition. Creates a long arm circle a separation and releases with a smooth, clean arm stroke topping at 81 mph. Throws produced accurate, on line carry to the bag. Right handed hitter with an upright, balanced stance. Compact, direct path to contact with a line drive plane through extension. Showed a high contact, line drive approach throughout batting practice, but did flash the barrel skills to work the baseball to all fields as well. Hands and barrel come through the zone cleanly, tools will continue to develop with physical maturity. Also pitched showing a smooth paced, rock step delivery to waist high leg kick. Stays tall on backside and utilizes lower half well while driving to the plate. Strides toward arm side, but keeps front foot in line with the plate at landing. Works across body at times with a rotational top half. Releases from a three-quarters arm slot that produces good life with fastball. Fastball created some downward plane to the plate in the mid 70's, topped at 76 mph. Curveball had 9/4 shape with some depth and solid seeping action to glove side. Mixed pitches well and showed the ability to keep hitter off balance. Commands the zone pretty well with the ability to spot up on the edges at times.
