2006 California Underclass
Tyler Anderson is a 2007 LHP/OF from Jordan HS, residing in West Jordan, UT, with a 5'8" 150 lb. frame. Anderson was named to the top prospect team at the California Underclass Showcase for his performance (not stuff) on the mound. As the listing would suggest, he has a small build and appears more suited to OF play than pitching. On the mound he pitched from a 3/4 slot with a short arm action. His 78-80 mph FB runs a bit on the arm side. Impressive was Anderson's ability to pitch to an approach and to find a way to succeed with his abilities, particularly a "vanishing" FB that seemingly disappeard down in the zone. He got a lot of swing and misses or beaters into the ground with the FB. His 69 mph change-up faded and he was able to use it. Anderson gets hitters out and has a lot of movement on all his pitches. He spots the FB, works quickly, works ahead, has good command, and is a strike thrower. On offense Anderson has an arm bar load and was best with a slap 'n run approach, particularly so when he let the ball travel. It was a decent enough looking swing, but he does need strength. On defense his arm is pretty quick and he has a patient approach in the OF. He goes to he ball pretty well. Anderson is not a prospect in general terms but there is a place for lefties that know how to get outs, making him a small college follow prospect.
