Shindler is a 5-10 senior infielder from Iowa with good overall strength and athleticism. What this young prospect can do is hit! He led the Iowa Spring League in hitting at .556 and kept it up by going 3-6 with a double and triple (to RCF off an 88 mph Ivan Rusova fastball) at the showcase. Shindler is simple and balanced in his approach at the plate and quick and short to the ball. He surprised us a bit with his power at the showcase as both his extra base hits were crushed over outfielder’s heads in a pro park. Shindler’s going to get his share of singles because he consistently centers the ball and is quicker to first than even his 7.1 60 time indicates. So the pop in the bat is a plus. Shindler’s defense is solid. We’ve seen him play all over the infield and he projects well to second base, although he shined defensively at third base at the showcase. His athletic balance serves him well fielding the ball and his arm strength plays. Shindler is a gamer who has all around college level tools and skills.

IF A.J. Shindler: Shindler is a junior infielder from Iowa with the ability to play good baseball at the college level. He’s comparable to another Iowa 2005 primary second baseman, Cory Schmaltz, in many ways, with Schmaltz having a small edge in speed and fielding actions. Actually, Shindler is the type that you can throw away the 60 times for. He has a quick first step, gets down the line very quickly in games and shows range in the field. It’s not top end speed, though, but it's usable baseball speed. Shindler has good sound fundamental defensive skills with smooth hands and a good release. At the plate, he is a front foot hitter who gets to his front side quickly and takes a good, hard cut. He’s a high average, high contact hitter who hits a ton of line drives up the middle and to left field. Shindler’s make up and hustle make his physical tools play better, too.

Shindler is a good young player that plays second base and has lots of potential with his bat. At 5 foot 10 and 145 pounds, his body is lean and already ahows good athleticism. He is just a sophomore and was timed in the 60 at 7.14 seconds. He showed good range at 2B and has lots of life in his legs. His glove played well there and he threw the ball 72 mph across the field indicating that his arm will at least be a good one at second base. At the plate he made contact consistently with a full swing holding little back. He still projects to add power with wood in time but has a lot to work with already. He hit a couple good ones including a hard shot over the outfielder in the opposite field. Watch him in the next year, we think he has what it takes.
