Matthew Waldren is a 2013 OF/LHP/1B with a 6-0 195 lb. frame from Phoenix, AZ who attends Mesquite HS. Solid athletic build, good present strength. Right handed hitter, left handed thrower. Pre-loads back hip on swing, aggressive swing approach, has strength and bat speed, shows some gap power, gets overaggressive and off balance at times, hit off speed pitches well. Good outfield arm strength, good footwork and charges hard, quick release, accurate throws, also showed ability at first base, athleticism shows on defense. Also pitched, over the top release point, short stride, throws downhill, effort on release, effective when at the bottom of the strike zone, cuts fastball at times, threw all fastballs in the game, curveball only in warm ups. Good athlete with strength, will improve with adjustments offensively. Good student.
