Nick Leone is a 2008 C/OF with a 5'11'', 200 lb. frame from Oldsmar FL, who attends Clearwater Catholic HS. He has a strong, thick mature build. Leone was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team. Leone threw 78 mph during drills with a best pop time of 1.93. He's quick and agile for his size (7.20 in the 60) and shifts quickly to block and throw. His arm strength and quickness give him high level catching tools and he has the enthusiasm for the position. Offensively, Leone hits from a squat stance and wide base with a good coil to get ready to hit. His strength is an asset and Leone has good bat speed. He has some lift in his swing that's going to give him power, especially on inside pitches that he can turn on. Leone doesn't have the same power on pitches away but does a good job making contact and taking the ball to the opposite field. Leone has a good balance of offensive and defensive tools and skills. Left handed hitting catchers are hard to find. Good follow.

Leone is a very young freshman catching prospect from Florida. He has a good athletic build and nice present strength for his age. Leone is a left handed hitter and a couple of the PG scouts remarked in their notes that he had a "Jim Edmonds" swing, meaning that he had a rock back load, high hand position initially, limited stride and an upper cut swing. Leone does generate good bat speed for a freshman and will keep improving with the bat. He also showed the ability to battle against the older pitchers and not back down. Defensively, Leone’s best tool was his raw arm strength. He made some nice game throws to the bases and looked confident and aggressive. His receiving and blocking skills will keep improving with hard work.
