Jason Butts is a 2007 C with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from Woodstock GA, who attends Kell HS. He has a live athletic body with good potential to add strength in the future. Butts wasn't able to participate in the drills portion of the showcase and only played in the games, but we've seen him play multiple times per year for the last three years and have a good handle on his skills and tools. He is one of the better defensive catcher's in the 2007 class. Butts has easy, quick actions behind the plate and receives top level pitches effortlessly. He has plus arm strength and a quick release; we had him on a game throw at 1.95 with the throw right on the bag. Offensively, Butts has a balanced approach and stays within himself very well with the bat. He has a smooth line drive swing plane and hits the ball to all fields. He has developing gap to gap power that will continue to improve as he gets stronger and more mature physically. Butts is a good student.

Jason Butts is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from Kell HS, residing in Woodstock, GA. Butts has an athletic and strong build on his 6'1" 185 lb. frame that is quite well put together. Butts is a good catching prospect with a chance to hit and very good catch throw skills. At the plate he hits from a sligthly open stance and a good looking set-up. He hits with a quiet, no stride approach and maintains his balance during the swing. Butts works to stay inside the ball and lets his barrel lag behind his hands, allowing him to let the ball get deep. With that hand path, he showed good ability to drive the ball to the opposite field. His power will come in a few years as he continues to get stronger. Behind the plate Butts simply showed that he can catch and throw. His in-game pop times were 2.02-2.05 and he was on the bag with his throws. Butts also has good agility and blocked balls in the dirt well. His raw arm strength is average but he has good feet and is accurate. Butts did not run a 60 yard dash and ran a 4.73 home/1st time. He is a capable hitter that will continue to get better and already brings game ready defensive skills to one of the two positions that for the most part still value defense slightly over offense (the other being shortstop). He is likely headed off to play D1 baseball next year and in time should develop into a very solid professional prospect.

Jason Butts is a 2007 C/P/1B from Kell High School in Woodstock, Georgia, with a 6'0'', 175 lb. frame. Butts has a good frame and room to grow. Behind the plate he has a solid arm (75 mph) with good transfers that helped produce pop times under 2.00. Butts has an accurate arm and can help control an opposition's running game. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with a short and compact swing. He turns on the ball well with good bat speed and attacks pitches on the inner half. Butts stays balanced through his swing and gets leverage at contact. He is currently a gap hitter, but over time his power should develop. Butts will be a good defensive catcher at the next level with upside at the plate.

Jason is a catcher with good 7.37 sixty speed. He can hit and had a very good bp session showing good bar speed and good power. Jason has strong hands and shows college level hitting skills. Look for him to hit at the next level.

Butts is a 6-0 right handed hitting sophomore catcher from Georgia. He has a medium build with some present strength and the chance to get stronger in the future. Butts hits from a tall stance with a short stride and a limited hand load. He showed some bat quickness and gap power, especially when he kept his weight back on his swing. He should continue to improve as a hitter as he gets stronger. Defensively, Butts showed developing arm strength with a quick release on his throws. He’s a fundamentally sound catcher with good shifting and blocking ability. Jason is very projectable and a very good prospect in the 07 class.
