Jacob Sylvester is a 2008 C with a 6'0'', 190 lb. frame from Livermore, CA who attends Livermore HS. He has a strong build, especially in his lower half. Sylvester is a high energy defensive catcher who shows leadership ability behind the plate. He makes quick, on line, accurate throws and shows some agility and quickness behind the plate. His hands could stand some softening but all the basic catching tools/skills are there. Offensively, Sylvester hits from a spread/no stride approach and has some strength in his hands when he gets the bat head out. He can be long with his swing and is best when he keeps it short and stays in side the ball. Sylvester is a excellent student.

Jacob Sylvester is a 2008 C with a 6'0'', 190 lb. frame from Livermore CA, who attends Livermore HS. Selected as a Top Prospect at this event. He has a strong, athletic, well-proportioned body. Sylvester is a good college prospect for more reasons than just his ability, which is strong. He is a great student, a leader, verbal, and on top of all that, he can play. Sylvester stands out as a defensive catcher. He is agile and that serves him well in blocking and in getting into a low crouch. Sylvester is a good receiver and receives all pitches well, including pro caliber stuff. He has good, lively actions and looks like could play all day. On top of that, he is a verbal leader and encourages his pitchers quite well. Offensively Sylvester has some power potential. His swing has some length, but with timing he gets the barrel to the ball pretty well. His hands work and he keeps his swing plane pretty flat. Overall, he is an excellent college prospect and beyond that, has a chance to play pro ball someday.
