Hunter Rome is a 2006 middle infielder from Houston, TX with a live-bodied athletic frame at 5-11, 165 lbs. He showed near MLB average actions in the infield with quick feet and quick hands. He has good range and he ran though balls in the outfield and cut off balls on the infield. His arm, which produced near MLB average throws from the outfield (88mph), was highly playable on the infield with a quick release. He hits from a spread stance with a no load approach. He showed a line drive approach that produced consistent contact with good bat speed. He has the potential to hit for big power. He showed MLB average speed with a 6.86 sec 60-yard dash. He has a nice set of tools and will develop into a national level prospect. Hunter is a very good student.

Hunter Rome -- Rome is a slender 5-11 sophomore shortstop from Houston who has the makings of being a very good player, especially if he’s able to get stronger over the next few years. Take him off the wet grass in Fort Myers and Rome is a + big league average runner right now with very good first step quickness. That’s unusual to see in a 15 year old. Rome swings the wood well for a 155 pounder, generating good bat speed from a tall stance with some leverage. Rome also looks like he has a sound plan and approach at the plate. Defensively, Rome had athletic actions at shortstop and a projectable arm that will probably enable him to stay at that position at the highest levels. We don’t know what to say about Rome as a student; either Memorial HS in Houston has a different grading system or Rome has the highest GPA that we’ve ever seen. Probably a combination of the two. Keep a close eye on this young man.
