Greg Baker is a 2007 C/OF/P with a 5'11'', 175 lb. frame from Hickory NC, who attends Hickory HS. He has a small frame and good present strength. Baker showed impressive arm strength both as a catcher and in the outfield. In fact, Baker was very impressive defensively at both positions. Although he was only a 7.53 runner in the 60, Baker showed college level range in the outfield and made several nice running catches. He's athletic behind the plate with quick actions both throwing and blocking. His best pop time was a quick 1.94, which could improve if he shortens his release. Offensively, Baker is a high effort hitter who attacks the ball aggressively. He maintains his balance well for his approach and gets good extension through the ball. The ball comes off his bat with authority and he shows gap to gap power. Baker will occasionally pull off the ball early and reach for the ball due to his aggressiveness. Overall, Baker has plenty of tools that play at the college level and impressive versatility. He is also an excellent student.

Baker is a 5-10, 170 lb junior catcher from North Carolina with a medium build who also pitches. Baker showed a very strong arm in drills with a 76 mph throw and pop times down to 1.99. He showed good catching skills during the games as well. Baker is a 7.62 runner. At the plate, Baker hits with an early load and a good, short swing that has some bat speed. Baker swings the bat hard and tends to raise up through the ball, which left him rolling over a number of pitches. His bat speed is pretty good for a developing 16 year old, though, and he should keep improving. Baker showed some ability on the mound as well. He threw his fastball 80-81 mph and had a very sharp 71 mph curveball. Baker worked quickly and threw strikes and was very efficient and business-like on the mound, which made for quick outs. One thing Baker does do as a pitcher is land hard on his front side and throw with more effort on his fastball, while landing softer and staying smoother on his curveball. Baker is an outstanding student and a good young follow as a catcher/pitcher.
