David Johannessen is a 2010 OF/C with a 5'8'', 160 lb. frame from W. Melbourne, FL who attends Melbourne HS. He has a smaller frame and lean build. Johannessen played both catcher and outfield at the showcase. He's an active, high energy fielder at both positions, with a long overhand release point that is probably better suited for outfield at this point, although he has plenty of time to make adjustments behind the plate. He showed good arm strength at both positions that should just keep getting better. Johannessen threw 73 mph during catching drills with a best pop time of 2.13. He made consistently accurate throws. He's a 7.51 runner in the 60. Offensively, Johannessen is listed as a switch hitter but only hit left handed. He hits from a tall, open stance and takes an aggressive swing with some developing bat speed. Johannessen was more of opposite field line drive hitter during batting practice but he opened up his swing in games and pulled the ball hard and showed some power potential. We liked Johannessen's aggressiveness in all phases of the game, he gets after it.
