John Melvin is a 2010 RHP/1B/3B with a 5'10'', 150 lb. frame from Houston, TX, who attends Memorial High School. Melvin is a young player with long legs and a projectable body. On the mound he throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with solid arm speed and good arm action. Melvin throws with minimal effort and stays online and balanced. His fastball topped out at 70 mph with arm side life. Melvin's best pitch is a 60 mph curveball with 12/6 tilt. He gets depth on the pitch, and it is a strikeout pitch. Melvin throws strikes with all of his pitches, and shows good pitchability for a young pitcher. The only thing keeping him back is time to develop velocity, but all the makings are there. At the plate he is a left handed hitter who uses a toe tap trigger from an open stance. Melvin loads his hands well, and shows great patience and tracks the ball well. He did a good job against older players, and he has good upside to his overall game. Melvin is an excellent student as well.
