Matt Conway is a 2009 LHP/1B with a 6'6'', 210 lb. frame from Birmingham MI, who attends Brother Rice. Named to Top Prospect Team. Conway has a big frame with long legs and a projectable body. He has present strength and has big body potential with his body type. Conway pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with a long loose arm action. He gets closed off at balance point and stays closed off through finish. He will throw for more velocity as he learns to clear his hips and get full rotation when he throws. His arm works well and he throws a heavy fastball, especially when down in the zone. Conway throws a change-up with good sink on it. It is a very dirty pitch when it is down in the zone. He gets late movement on his fastball and spots it up well. Conway has projectable velocity and should make big gains soon. At the plate, he starts with a slightly open stance with high hands. He has raw power with good strength in his swing. Conway puts a lot of effort in his swing and has a high finish. Defensively, Conway has solid defensive actions around the base at first and has nice hands.
