Chris Wakefield is a 2008 RHP with a 5'11'', 195 lb. frame from Canton, GA who attends Bay Port HS. He has a mature build, with stocky strength throughout. Wakefield is a polished pitcher with plus arm strength. He throws in the 89-92 mph range consistently with his fastball and with minimal effort. His delivery is smooth and well paced and his arm quick and compact. Wakefield shows very good feel with his 73 mph curveball and it has a big, deep break that makes it hard to get a good swing on. His change up is developing well, too. Wakefield doesn't project much as a pitcher but his current stuff is very good and he knows what he's doing on the mound. Wakefield is also a dangerous hitter who showed plus power in Cincinnati and hit some BP bombs. He has a deep load and a long, powerful swing and will struggle with off speed stuff, but the raw power is impressive. Wakefield's family recently moved from Wisconsin to Georgia. He's a college coaches dream as a RHP/DH and the scouts can't ignore his present stuff and feel on the mound.

Chris Wakefield is a 2008 RHP/3B/1B with a 5'11'', 195 lb. frame from Green Bay WI, who attends Bay Port HS. He has a strong, mature build that maintains good looseness throughout. Wakefield keeps getting a bit better every time we see him pitch. He has a loose, full delivery with a good base and good balance throughout. His arm comes through cleanly in a tight 3/4's release and he's extended and smooth out front. Wakefield's fastball sat at 91 mph consistently and touched 92. He hides the ball well and the ball seems to jump on hitters late, although it looks pretty straight. Wakefield did a good job pitching above hitter's hands with his fastball. Wakefield's breaking ball is a 78 mph curveball that has a short, controlled break. It's not a strike out pitch but he commands it low in the zone very well and changes the hitters eye level with it. He threw a couple at lower velocities and it had a bigger, sharper bite. Wakefield also mixed in a couple of change ups. He'll have to work on his stretch mechanics some, he tends to drift out early, losing his arm leverage and a couple of mph's on his velocity. Wakefield also swung the bat well. He's a very aggressive hitter who uses his strength to create plus bat speed.

Chris Wakefield is a 2008 RHP/1B/3B with a 5'11'', 195 lb. frame from Green Bay, WI, who attends Bay Port HS. Named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Wakefield has a mature build with good present strength in his body. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a quick arm. His arm works well with no glitches. He gets life on his fastball that topped out at 91 mph, and he keeps the ball down. Wakefield also mixes in a hard curveball at 76 mph with depth and late break. He was dominating striking out all 9 batters he faced. Wakefield is a two-way prospect because of his 90+ mph arm, and his power hitting ability at the plate. He is an aggressive hitter who uses a power approach at the plate. He has bat speed through the zone and gets good leverage at the point of contact. He does a good job hitting to all fields, especially for his approach. Defensively he has solid actions with very good arm strength across the diamond. He is a must follow.

Chris Wakefield is a 2008 RHP/1B with a 5'11'', 200 lb. frame from Green Bay WI, who attends Bay Port HS. He has a mature and strong build, especially in the lower half. Wakefield was one of the top performers at the showcase both on the mound and at the plate and is a top 2-way college prospect. On the mound, Wakefield throws from a simple turn and throw delivery and pounds the strike zone. His fastball topped out at 90 mph from a low effort arm action and was pretty straight. Wakefield's 75 mph curveball had a hard downer break and will be a good pitch at the next level. Offensively, Wakefield has a big coil to get himself in hitting position and attacks the ball aggressively. He's a confident hitter who is looking to drive the ball hard somewhere, which he did almost every time out. Wakefield showed very good gap to gap power and the strength and bat speed to handle top level pitching. He's a corner infielder with good arm strength and clean actions.
