Grant Nelson is a 2009 C/2B/OF with a 6'0'', 182 lb. frame from San Mateo, CA, who attends Serra HS. Nelson is a young player with a very good frame that is projectable. Defensively he has quickness behind the plate with his footwork on throws and blocking balls. He has solid arm strength on his throws to second base that are accurate and online. Nelson also receives well showing good upside behind the plate. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who hits from a wide base with a no stride approach. He is an aggressive hitter who shows bat speed through the hitting zone. He gets good leverage at the point of contact that should allow him to hit with more pop in the future. Nelson gets extension, and he has a nice swing overall. Once on the bases, he runs well with instincts. Nelson did pitch at the event, but he is not listed as a pitcher. He is a good student as well.
