SCOUTING PROFILE: Harrison has been one of the nation’s most closely-scrutinized players since his pre-high school days. He often competed against and was routinely compared to Bryce Harper, the first overall pick in the 2010 draft. They frequently matched each other home-run-for-home-run in youth-league competitions, before even entering high school. Harrison also competed in Perfect Game events at an early age and may have played more frequently in front of PG scouts over the years than any player in the organization’s history, winning numerous MVP awards (and Aflac All-American honors) along the way. With all his exposure, there are few players in the 2011 high-school draft class that scouts have seen more or have a firmer handle on his talent. That can be viewed as a mixed blessing for any player, though, even one as talented as Harrison. On the obvious plus side is Harrison’s massive raw power, strength and hitting ability, which rank firmly with any high-school prospect in the country. His righthanded swing combines excellent bat speed with a short path to the ball, and Harrison has the type of patience and plate coverage that finds him rarely overmatched, even against the best pitchers in the country. An added benefit of Harrison’s extended exposure to scouts has been the obvious realization that he enjoys playing the game and ranks with any player in his desire to be on the field. His steady on-field hustle and effort are admirable qualities, and the powerful ABD Bulldogs have not traveled anywhere in the country for the past four years without Harrison in the lineup, ready to play. While scouts have bemoaned the relatively-thin class of high-school talent in Southern California this spring, Harrison’s performance has stood out. Through games of April 20, he was hitting .547-8-25 with 20 walks in 19 games. Projected Draft Position: Late First Round/Compensation Round. --DAVID RAWNSLEY

Travis Harrison is a 2011 OF/3B/P with a 6'2'', 195 lb. frame from Aliso Viejo, CA who attends Tustin high school. Harrison is another extremely interesting 2011 with a strong athletic body and good tools. The bat stood out at USC both in BP and in the game. He's simply fun to watch hit. Harrison is an aggressive attacker who manages to keep things under control. He definitely shows big power potential. In the game he ripped a hard line drive to LF off of one of the top pitching prospects in the nation. He also singled up the middle against another top pitching propsect. Best of all he plays the game hard and showed it while running the bases. Doesn't look like a typical sophomore in high school in any way. Very advanced at the plate. He is going to create a lot of serious recruiting and draft interest over the next two years. Harrison is also a good student.

Travis Harrison is a 2011 OF/3B with a 6'1'', 190 lb. frame from Aliso Viejo, CA who attends Tustin. Harrison has a good sized frame with a strong athletic build. Defensively, Harrison gets to the ball well in the outfield and has good actions. He has good hands and good skills in the OF. His arm strength looked better than 75 mph in game situations, and he has plenty of time to develop that tool. On the infield Harrison has good footwork and solid actions. At the plate, Harrison starts with a pre-loaded stance and is explosive to the baseball. He has big-time raw hitting tools and a lot of pop in his bat. The ball absolutely ball jumps off his bat in large part to his plus bat speed. He has an aggressive hitting approach and maintains good balance through his swing. Harrison gets good extension in his swing and has good pitch recognition. He has good power potential and is very advanced for his age at the plate. Harrison is one of the top players in his class and is a very good student.

Travis Harrison is a 2011 OF/3B/P with a 6'1'', 187 lb. frame from Aliso Viejo, CA who attends Tustin HS. If there had been a top prospect list for the few 2011 grads in the event, Harrison would have been listed #1. He is a talented young player, with a strong, well-proportioned build. He would be a good prospect if he were a junior, which makes him that much more exciting as a freshman. Harrison has strong hitting instincts and ability with the bat. The ball jumps off his bat with some explosion and he showed easy power to the pull side. His arm strength is solid and should continue to improve. Harrison's bat will certainly play at any of the corner positions and he has the speed to cover ground in the outfield. If the arm continues to develop, Harrison just might evolve into a right fielder. His raw tools are apparent and it will be interesting to see him develop over the next few years. Harrison is an excellent student and a no-brainer major D1 prospect who will also get draft consideration when that time comes.
