Michael Gibellina is a 2009 MIF/OF from Neuqua Valley in Naperville, IL, with a 5'2'', 105 lb. frame. He's extremely small but has a very live athletic body and a lot more strength than some players much bigger. Gibellina ran the 60 in 7.99 but has good first step quickness on defense and on the bases. He showed range getting to balls at second base, soft hands on ground balls and solid defensive actions. Gibellina's arm strength is developing but he does profile at second base in the future. Offensively, Gibellina has very sound hitting fundamentals and quick hands. He squares up on the ball very well and extends through on contact. He even has some lift at the end of his swing. If Gibellina was 6-0, you could easily project power from him in the future with his swing mechanics and hand quickness. He obviously knows how difficult he is to pitch to, also, as he was very patient and selective at the plate. Gibellina is a scrappy ball player who really knows how to play and is fun to watch. He has plenty of time to grow and get stronger. Gibellina is also a good student.
