Matthew O'Neill is a 2008 C/3B with a 5'8'', 171 lb. frame from West Chester PA, who attends Westtown School. O'Neill has a medium sized frame with a strong build. Defensively, O'Neill moves around behind the plate well and sets up well to receive. He has solid receiving skills with a good idea of how to block balls in the dirt. He has longer actions on his throws to 2B which can be shortened up a bit to give him a quicker pop time. At the plate, O'Neill starts with a wide base with flexed knees. He uses a big reverse stride Jeff Bagwell style and maintains good balance through his swing. O'Neill swings on a line drive plane and has a good approach in the box. O'Neill has a smooth swing and has good bat speed through the zone. He has present gap to gap pop and makes consistent solid contact. O'Neill is a good student.
