2016 Mid Atlantic Top Prospect Showcase
Austin Kaplan is a 2017 MIF/OF, RHP with a 6-1 190 lb. frame from West Nyack, NY who attends Clarkstown South Senior High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and a strong, physical build with strength throughout. Ran a 7.64 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, fields the ball out front with a wide base, long strides ranging to either side, works through the backhand well, shows balance and quickness while charging in, accurate throws across the diamond with nice arm strength. Developing footwork in the outfield, shows a strong arm and gets on top of throws well from a high three-quarters arm slot. Also pitched, worked exclusively out of the stretch, stays short through the backside with arm action and throws from a three-quarters release point. Loose arm and gets on top of generate plane, up to 84 mph and ball comes out clean with solid running life, some whip to arm action. Curveball comes out the same slot, short 11-5 shape at 71 mph, occasionally gets around it, changeup at 77 mph featured diving life down in the zone. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Simple glide through lower half into contact, shows quickness to hands and uses physical strength well to generate carry off the barrel. Gets extended out front and shows bat speed through the zone, projects nicely with continued incorporation of lower half into swing. Excellent student. Named to Mid Atlantic Top-Top Prospect List.
