Dimitri De La Fuente is a 2008 SS/P/3B with a 6'1'', 185 lb. frame from West Covina, CA who attends South Hills HS. He has a very good athletic body with good strength throughout, especially in his lower half. De La Fuente is a very advanced hitter with all the hitting tools to be successful at the upper levels of the game. He hits from a calm and quiet start and has excellent explosion to the ball. His swing is long and on plane with top level raw bat speed. The ball comes off his bat easy and he shows easy line drive power to all fields and some lift when he pulls the ball. There really isn't much that De La Fuente needs to do with his hitting package except keep getting stronger. He is a 6.78 runner in the 60 who showed polished base running instincts and a good first step. Defensively, De La Fuente's best tool is his arm strength and his 88 mph velo in field drills is deceptively low; he has a cannon that he showed in games. His hands are infield soft but he doesn't always show smooth shortstop actions in his lower half and there's a good chance that he might end up at third base. De La Fuente also pitched and showed his arm strength from the mound, throwing 88-90 mph with minimal effort and a 71 mph curveball. He has a verbal commitment to Pepperdine.

Dimitri De La Fuente is a 2008 IF/P with a 6'1'', 175 lb. frame from West Covina CA, who attends South Hills HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect at this event. De La Fuente has a strong, athletically proportioned body, with a broad upper body and more room to fill out. He is one of the more talented two-way players in what appears to be a deep '08 class of two-way players in California. Offensively De La Fuente showed a quiet, gap to gap approach, with a balanced swing and good bat speed. He looked like a young professional hitter. The ball exits De La Fuente's bat well and he has a little lift in his swing that will result in good power as he continues to develop. Defensively his athleticism plays well for him, particularly when he can just react and let his natural ability take over. He has a plus arm and it shows any time he has to go to his backhand, either in the hole at shortstop or up the 3rd base line. He has a quick release and throws accurately. De La Fuente shows the actions of a pure middle infielder and if he makes the everyday play he can stay at shortstop. His versatility as an athlete is a major plus as his bat will always have him in the middle of the line-up. On the mound De La Fuente is also impressive. He has a fast, loose arm and an athletic delivery. His fastball (86-88 mph) has good down angle and he throws strikes with it. A week after this event De La Fuente was back in the California All-Star Games and touched up to 90. He also has a 12/6ish downer curveball (70-71 mph) that is a legitimate swing and miss out-pitch. His stuff and mound presence suggest that he might make an excellent closer in college, in addition to being a standout position player.
