2016 Mid Atlantic Top Prospect Showcase
Tommy Rodriguez is a 2017 OF/SS with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Paterson, NJ who attends Eastside High School. Medium, athletic frame with square and broad shoulders, long limbs, and room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.19 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, shows athleticism to actions moving towards the ball, fields the ball out front, long arm action through the back and gets on top of it well, big arm strength and carry out of hand, ball comes out clean, works behind and through the ball consistent. Similar arm strength across the diamond from same arm action, can throw from multiple release points, rounds the ball well, fields out front and funnels well, takes shorter steps towards the ball. Righthanded hitter, upright stance in the box and does a nice job of loading hands back at the start, begins slightly open with base and gets closed at contact. Uses a leg lift trigger for timing, upper body dominant swing but shows quickness to both the hands and barrel through the zone. Line drive swing plane with comfort to hit to pull side, gets the barrel around well and shows a feel for the barrel with looseness to hands. Good student. Named to Mid Atlantic Top-Top Prospect List.
