Austin Keil is a 2017 1B with a 6-5 220 lb. frame from Ormond Beach, FL who attends Father Lopez HS. Extra-large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and a mature build with present strength proportioned throughout. Primary first baseman, fields the ball out front and moves well off the bag, hands play well at the ball, full arm action coming through the back, comes out well with an upright release, accurate throws across. Also pitched, begins with a leg lift up to the belt and remains tall on back side, three-quarters arm slot at release with a short arm action through the back. Fastball topped out at 73 mph with short running life and ability to work down in the zone. Pitches to contact and induces it early in count, easy release, exclusively threw fastballs. Lefthanded hitter at the plate, begins with an open stance in the box and does a nice job of getting closed at the point of contact. Short swing plane coming through the zone and looks to lift the ball at contact, pull side approach and has the ability to turn on ball, shows jump off the barrel when squared up. Very good student.
