Deston Martin is a 2017 OF/RHP with a 6-3 175 lb. frame from Joliet, IL who attends Minooka Community. Medium-large frame with athletic, slender present build and good room to continue filling out. Ran 60 yard dash in 6.86 seconds. Sets to hit from slightly upright stance, open front hip with spread feet. Torques hands at top of load circle, shows good raw bat speed with line drive swing plane. Consistently squared the ball up and will continue to develop power with additional strength gains. Short, quick steps in the outfield with good routes to the ball, shows clean glove actions and fields cleanly for the most part. Solid arm strength, threw 83 MPH from the outfield with good carry and projection for more. Pitched as well, long levers and hip coil help create deception in delivery, deep hook in back of arm circle with leverage through stroke, generates good plane to plate from high three quarters arm slot. Fastball worked 74-78 MPH, showed ability to throw strikes with the pitch to both sides of the plate. Mixed in a short slider with good sharpness down in the zone, also showed a changeup with good arm speed replication and deception. Very good student. Named to 2016 Great Lakes Showcase Top Prospect List.
