Roger Varela is a 2015 SS/3B/RHP with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Yuma, AZ who attends Cibola HS. Medium slender frame with some lower half strength. 7.31 runner, arm strength still developing defensively, tends to throw ball uphill, corner position tools. Right handed hitter, multiple toe tap load, complicated hitting mechanics, gets to his front side early, good hand path to the ball and makes consistent square contact, line drive swing plane, stays balanced well, aggressive and shows swing confidence. Also pitched, rotational delivery with multi-piece arm action, long 3/4's arm action, fastball to 73 mph, soft downer curveball, tends to slow arm on off speed. Good student.
