Higgins is a 6'3" 180 pound 2006 middle infielder who attends Villa Park High School in Villa Park, California. He has a tall lean frame with a lot of room to fill out and get stronger. Tyler has an inside out swing and is very short to the ball. He has a good balanced swing and shows decent power. His good bat speed keeps his swing nice and compact. He hammered a line drive to center in the game. Higgins is an average fielder with an average arm. He made an outstanding running play in the game. In the workout, he threw 80 from the infield and ran a 7.36 in the 60. Tyler is an outstanding student with a 4.7 grade point average and scoring a 1790 on his SAT.

Higgins is a very projectable, very young middle infielder (15 year old Class of 2006) who at 6-3, 170 could fill out and mature in any number of different ways. He has some very interesting present tools that should just continue to improve. Higgins has a controlled inside out approach at the plate and generates good bat speed with the ability to manipulate his hands and the bat head and adjust to pitches. When he gets stronger he’ll be the type of hitter who can launch balls up the right centerfield gap. Defensively, Higgins has good arm strength for shortstop that’s easy to project to average in the future, but he has plenty of work to do on his footwork. He’s a 7.26 runner. It will be fun to watch Higgins develop over the next couple of years. He is a very interesting young prospect. Tyler is an excellent student also.
