Ryan Coker is a young 2008 prospect from Robinson, Texas, with a fairly mature body for his age. He has some strength in his hands, but is long to the ball right now with an aluminum bat type swing. Coker showed better bat speed and quickness against the live pitching in games than in batting practice. Coker profiles to third base defensively, especially as he continues to grow and add strength. He has a low, quick release and some arm strength for his age. Working on his speed and lower body quickness will be key to Coker’s development. Coker also pitched a couple of innings, topping out at 76 mph and doing a good job throwing strikes.

Coker is very young, he's an "08" from Robinson, TX. At 5'10/160 he has a nice athletic frame to grow into. It's difficult comparing 8th graders to seniors in high school, but this kid can compete. Ryan shows some promise on the mound, but needs some mechanical help. He throws from a normal 3/4 slot, but drops to a L3/4 with his curve with a short, but very loose arm action. His tempo is good and he shows a desire to pitch. His fast ball is 78 mph with some arm side run. His curve has 10-4 rotation and is a spinner lacking depth and sharpness at 60 mph. Then again he shouldn't be throwing too many breaking balls yet.His change is 60-61 from a tight grip and some straight sink. The changeup will become a very good pitch for him. All in all he's very promising and someone to follow. At the plate he shows a LD swing plane. He really needs to get older before evaluating him with the wood. He has a potential bright future on the mound and will develop greatly over the next several years. We like the way he operates. Ryan is an excellent student.
