Rett Varner is a 2006 RHP from Northwest HS in Trophy Club, TX, with a 6'4", 180 lb. frame. He has a lean, projectable look to him and is fluid in all his athletic actions. Varner's delivery is balanced and effortless. He has a long, smooth arm action with good arm speed and a 3/4's release point. Varner stays on line with the plate well and has no trouble throwing strikes and commanding the zone. His fastball was mostly 87 mph with good life to it. Varner's curveball was 73 with a shorter slider like break to it. He also threw a couple of change ups. Varner is all about projection right now, he's the type of young pitcher who could very good in a hurry with a bit more strength.

Rett Varner is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Trophy Club, TX, with a lean, athletic pitcher's body at 6'4", 180 pounds. He has long legs and a high waist. He pitches from a 3/4 to h3/4 slot with a clean loose arm and a low effort repeatable delivery. He threw a very live fastball in the 84-86 mph range with arm side run and occasional sink. He touched 88 mph. His secondary pitches included a change that was 74-76 mph with some feel and fade which he threw with good arm speed. He throws a hard 12-6 curveball at 69-70 mph with good depth. He also showed good athleticism on a few fielding attempts and he ran a 7.00 in the 60. His size and current arm strength will allow him to be in the low 90’s by this time next year. He is a high level college prospect with good draft potential in 2006. Rett is a very good student.

Rett Varner is a slender and projectable 6'3" right handed pitcher in the 2006 class from Trophy Club, Texas. He showed a loose and easy arm with a very sound delivery and good on line mechanics. Varner started off at 82-84 mph on his fastball early in his 3 inning outing, but must not have fully warmed up because he was steady at 86-87 mph after a few hitters. With his looseness, projectability and present velocity, it’s easy to see Varner being a low 90’s thrower in a few years. Varner threw a 66 mph curveball that, like his fastball, improved in spin and break the more he worked, but it’s a pitch that still has some work to be done on it. Varner’s 73 mph change up was a good pitch for him with some nice sink and deception. Varner is a very good runner at 6.88 in the 60, and showed professional grade arm strength from the outfield, but his bat doesn’t look like it will enable him to be a two-way prospect.
