Michael Demperio is a 2006 2B from Kell High School in Atlanta, GA, with a lean and athletic 5'11'', 165 lb. frame. Demperio didn't run the sixty at this event, but he is one of the quicker players in the country. Defensively, he has good actions and softer hands that will allow him to play up the middle. Demperio has a quick release and an accurate arm. He turns the double play well and has nice footwork around the second base bag. He made a great diving play to his right during one of the showcase games showing great range and instincts. At the plate he is a right handed hitter who was more aggressive at this event than he has shown in the past. He is a line drive hitter with good bat speed and tries to get the ball in play and hurt you with his speed. He beats out infield hits better than anyone, but his most impressive at bat came against Josh Smoker. Demperio fouled off about 10 pitches and battled the tough lefty. Demperio has a great awareness of the strike zone and will be a top level leadoff hitter. A fun player to watch.

Michael Demperio is a 2006 second baseman from Georgia with a lean, greyhound 5-11, 165 lb build. Demperio is an outstanding defensive player at second base who can impact a game with his plus, plus range. His actions are smooth and quick and he has above average arm strength for second base. We've never seen him play shortstop but watching him make throws behind second base it sure looks like he has the arm strength to play the left side of the infield as well. Demperio is a prototype leadoff hitter on offense. He has 6.4 speed and excellent first step quickness. He is a polished bunter who we've regularly got in the 3.7-3.8 range on bunts and 4.0-4.1 on swings to first base. Demperio is an arrogant base stealer who is going to take the extra base at the first opportunity even when the opposition is looking to stop him. Demperio also has surprising pop for his size and can pull the ball out of the park when he gets his pitch, although looking for power will make him long to the ball on occasion. This young can really play and is a winner. He could create serious draft interest with the right sort of team who recognizes that he's a top level performance player with a polished game. Demperio has signed to go to Texas.
