Andrew Tharp is a 2009 1B/P with a 6'4'', 210 lb. frame from Leesburg, GA who attends Lee County HS. He has a big, strong athletic build with a high waist and good strength projection. Tharpe hits out of an open stance with a full pull and lift power approach at the plate. He's very aggressive to the ball with a long, arching swing. Tharpe showed the ability to go down and get low pitches and adjust his swing. He's going to struggle with balance in his swing and swing and miss frequently, but he has the raw power and bat speed to put a charge into the ball when the pitcher makes a mistake. Tharpe showed good athletic ability around first base, with soft hands and good footwork and should be an asset on defense. He also took a turn on the mound and showed an 82 mph fastball from a cross body delivery with a tight 64 mph curveball. He could probably throw harder with some mechanical adjustments.
