Gabe Cohen is a 2006 outfielder from Encino, Ca with a good athletic body at 6-2, 205 lbs and very good present strength. Cohen ran the 60 in 6.97 and was 4.49 down to first base from the right side. He showed professional level arm strength from the outfield at 89 mph. At the plate, Cohen has very good hand strength and creates nice bat speed from an upright stance. He needs to work on the consistency of his balance; sometimes he has a negative load and weight shift and sometimes he's out on his front side quickly. When Cohen's timing is good, the ball comes off his bat hard and he shows nice gap to gap power potential with a line drive swing plane. He showed that he could make adjustments with his hands and make consistent hard contact. Cohen is a very good student who has committed to go to UCLA.

Gabe is a 2006 grad from Harvard-Westlake High School from Encino California and has a well proportioned 6-2, 195 lb body that could get really strong as he matures. He's a good looking player who comes to play and likes to compete. Gabe has very good bat speed with wood right now and the ball jumps off his bat in a hurry. He has a looseness to his swing and very exciting power potential. Defensively, Gabe has a very strong arm (87 mph) with good carry and accuracy. His defensive mechanics are solid and polished. He is also a good runner for his size at 7.03 in the 60 and 4.33 to first base. Overall, this is a potential 5-tool type of player who will interest all the major colleges. The pro scouts will have to account for him. He is a high level 06 prospect. Gabe is a very good student as well.

Cohen was the best “present” hitter at the West Undergraduate Showcase. He hit a couple of home runs in batting practice with a short, effortless swing and just to show that it wasn’t a fluke, hit another one in game competition. Pretty good work for a sophomore on professional fields with a wood bat. During the prospect game, Cohen got an 88 mph fastball up in the zone and drilled it into the left field corner like he’d done it a hundred times. Cohen is average sized at 6-0, 175 but the ball just jumps off his bat. He’s also a pretty good athlete who could stay in centerfield for many years to come with his close to MLB average speed and strong throwing arm. Another thing we liked about Cohen was that he carried himself like a ballplayer. He’s a confident kid who acts like he belongs on a baseball field and he doesn't graduate until 2006. Gabe is a good student also.
