Evan Stobbs-Bultema is a 2007 right hand hitting corner infielder from Sarasota HS, residing in Myakka City, FL. He is a physically mature player with a physical 6'3" 210 lb. frame. Stobbs-Bultema is the kind of player you have to see when he is in his comfort zone, where his power and raw hitting ability show the best. As it was, he ranked #87 among PG National Top 100 position players, though one of our scouts saw him better later in the summer. Stobbs-Bultema hits from a square stance and has quite a quiet approach to hitting. His lower half provides a very sound base and he swings with excellent balance, generating good bat speed and acceleration through contact. His hands work well, they are strong and make a nice path through the ball. Stobbs-Bultema has good present day power and hits the ball hard from gap to gap, with power to the middle of the field. His swing is both short and powerful, meaning that he will hit for average and power. In the field he showed soft hands and nice feel for defense. His arm is average across diamond though he did show 88 on mound. For most teams he is likely a 1st baseman but he looks capable of being an adequate 3rd baseman, if you are not expecting much range. He should get big attention by D1 programs that want to get an aluminum bat in his hands and will also get some pro attention because of his present day raw power and sound hitting ability.

Stobbs-Bultema is a very physically mature sophomore third baseman/right handed pitcher from Florida. He has excellent strength. Stobb-Bultema didn't run the 60 during the workout and didn't air his arm out throwing during infield drills because he was pitching later. He did show very smooth infield actions during the games, including one great diving play to his left, and a very quick release to go with solid arm strength. Stobbs-Bultema has a good balanced stance at the plate and projects huge power. He has a bit of backside collapse in his swing that produces some loft and he has very good bat speed. He could cut down his long stride a bit. As a pitcher, Stobbs-Bultema has a long, powerful arm stroke but somewhat raw pitching mechanics. His fastball topped out at 84 mph and he had a sharp 71 mph curveball. He could probably throw harder right now with some adjustments and could be a power pitcher type down the road with his strength and arm. Stobbs-Bultema is also a good student.
