Mason is a senior catcher with the body of a singles hitter but the bat of an RBI leader. He ran a respectable 7.61 in the 60 on a quick track and utilizes his mobiity as much as he can on the field. He can receive with soft hands and block well. His arm is below average but we have seen him for several years we notice the arm strength growing at the same rate as his body. He popped nearly every throw at 2.19 after a 9 inning game the evening before the Midwest showcase and we have seen better from him. His bat is his best tool. The wiry 6 foot, 155 pounder can send the ball a long way with wood. He prefers the bare-handed grip and has a very keen eye. At times, we wonder where the wood power comes from. We have not seen him swing and miss on many balls whether is be a 78 mph fastball or an 81 mph slider. He can hit. The College that signs Mason knows the bat they are getting with him and we think he will contribute with it immediately.

Mason is a 6 foot tall, 155 pound catcher who can hit. He has a very thin body on a narrow frame that may or may not add much more weight in the future, but for some reason he shows good power with wood. There is no question that he can hit good pitching. We have seen for several years the ability he has to drive the ball with wood into the gap and take extra bases. His speed profiles as a catcher, his arm has shown 73-75 mph velocity and his receiving skills are good. He has good hands, blocks well and knows the game. He can further improve by sharpening his footwork and shorten the release on his throws. He showed a tendency to drop his hands before bringing them back up with his throw down to second base. We have seen him pop in the 2.1-2.15 range and could get that to a 2 flat with a quicker, from-the-ear, arm motion. At the plate Mason showed quiet hands and a late trigger. His bat-speed is good but the exit speed of the ball appears to exceed that of his bat, if that is physically possible. It is an interesting tool that will play at a high level in College. His pitch recognition is another good aspect of his hitting and swinging at bad pitches does not happen often with him. He has patience and the ability to hit a ball where it is pitched. If his other tools caught up to his bat he could be a fun catcher to watch in College. He needs to get looked at by Colleges that want offensive production.

Mason shows some arm strength and quickness, but needs to improve his transfer. He has room to get much bigger and stronger. His best tool is the bat, he creates excellent bat speed and the ball really jumps off his bat. Be interesting to see how good he might be if he gets bigger.

Mason is a young guy who is just learning the catching position. He's making giant strides. He is a pretty good hitter who will only get better.

Scott's best tool is his bat. He shows occasional power and can hit to all fields. Look for Scott to compete at the next level if he continues to get stronger and improve defensively.
