Alex Rivers is a 2006 right handed pitcher from Tokay HS in Lodi, CA, with a 5'10", 150 lb. frame. He has a lean, lively body with plenty of quick twitch muscles like a shortstop. Rivers throws from a slow, easy delivery with a short arm action in back that hides the ball well. His arm action is very quick and clean, resulting in a 89 mph fastball that looks like it jumps on hitters late. Rivers has the ability to work up the ladder with his fastball and get hitters to swing at pitches up and out of the strike zone. His 72 mph curveball is very sharp and has a steep downer break to it. His 78 mph change up has some fade. Hitters took some poor swings off Rivers offerings during his two innings of work. Rivers is also a prospect level shortstop. He ran the 60 in 7.08 and threw 86 mph from shortstop during drills. He has clean fielding mechanics and actions. His bat plays, too. Rivers is a high level 2-way prospect. He is also a good student who has signed with Santa Clara.

Alex Rivers is a 2006 right handed pitcher/shortstop from Lodi, California, with a nice frame and lean build. He projects very well to get much stronger and physical. Rivers is a lively kid with quick and agile actions, and overall athletic ability. Rivers has another year to go, and should be an impact player at his present level. On the mound he shows very good presence, and is a tough competitor, and is aggressive towards the hitters. Rivers has a fluid and sound delivery with good arm speed. When he adds strength, he should also improve his already solid velocity. He threw 2 innings, and had 5 strikeouts with the ability to slow the hitter's bat speed and miss many bats. He has solid arm strength, and good footwork and hands to play at a middle infield position. He has a solid approach at the plate, and should be an early line up type hitter that makes quality contact. Rivers is a good two way player, and shows an even tempo delivery to repeat his location. Rivers shows good pitchability, and should generate a lot of interest to play 2-ways at a quality college program.
